Running Club

BEGINS MAY 1, 2018

Due to scheduling conflicts, our first practice will be on TUESDAY evening, May 1 at 6:00 pm at Warriors Path State Park (we will gather next to the clubhouse on Duck Island).  Coach Travis Olinger will lead the session.

Eligibility: Primarily grades 4 through 12, although younger children are welcome if they are accompanied by a parent for the entire practice. Often entire families participate together in our practices and our competitions!  We do encourage parents to join in on this activity.

Season: In general, we will meet on Thursday evenings through October for group training. We begin at 6:00 p.m. and are finished within about one hour. Our locations vary and are announced via our e-mail distribution each week. Our locations are selected based on security and oversight considerations. We do not send participants off on runs out of sight or without adult supervision.

We realize that schedule conflicts will result in many coming and going each week, and that is quite all right; the running club format allows for that flexibility.  KACHEA membership is required to run competitively on our Running Club teams.

Details: The Running Club strives to provide an informal, family-friendly weekly fitness activity, along with some competitive race opportunities for those interested.

OUR FOCUS – Our training is focused on age-appropriate distance running. Practice activities will include active stretching and strengthening exercises, and, of course, various structured running workouts. You are always free to modify or limit the activities to fit your desires and fitness levels. Unstructured, “open” runs are always an option if you don’t feel comfortable with the structured training.

COMPETITIONS – Participating in competitions is not required but always a fun activity and motivator. Events include several road races and track meets through the season, and, in the fall, several cross country meets. We will organize teams for some of these competitions if we have enough participation.

Do you have an interest? If so, it would be helpful to hear from you with names and ages of possible participants and your preferred email addresses. These responses will help with planning and future communications. Or you can just show up on Tuesday, May 1, at 6:00 pm at Warriors. You’ll want to eat dinner after practice but be sure to snack a few hours before practice. And don't forget to bring your own water.
